Football Season

One of my favorite times of the year is Fall because I love Monday night football.  It doesn't matter if it's the Cowboys or the Redskins.  Which by the way were some of the best rivalry games in the league.

I don't follow the Cowboys like I used to.  In fact, the last game I went to was 4 years ago.  We had some friends down from New York who wanted to see the game.  It was 114 degrees outside and they wanted to have a tailgate party.  They didn't care that it was 114 degrees, because they didn't quit understand just how hot it gets!

So trying to be a good hostess we arrive 2 hours early.  About an hour of baking in the sun, they are hot.  They end up piling in the cars for some a/c for the next hour.

And it gets better!

If you've ever been to the Texas Stadium you know there is no roof.  It's open so if it's hot and sunny outside, it's hot and sunny inside.  My seat was directly under the sun which meant no relief in site.  I ended up having to leave.  Not just move seats, but I had to leave the game.  I ended up at the hospital because I was dehydrated.  And of course no one else was affected by the heat, just me.  I guess I'm a whimp when it comes to hot weather.

But nonetheless, Fall is not Fall without football.

'Monday Night Football' Changes the Channel  "After 35 Years on ABC, ESPN Will Take Over Beginning in 2006"  ABC's "Monday Night Football," which revolutionized broadcasting of the National Football League when it was launched 35 years ago, will end its unprecedented run on network television after the 2005 season and move to the ESPN cable network.

Does this mean no more of John Madden's etch-a-sketch instant replays??

It's A Tradition

Every year we have a family reunion in my home state Missouri.  My grandparents who are both 80 years old love to prepare a big breakfast for all of us.  We try to tell them no, but they insist.

It's a tradition they always fix biscuits and gravy, pancakes, sausage, eggs and bacon.

My grandparents do well considering they are both 80, but from time to time they do have a mishap, or two......a week.

Fortunately, they laugh at their self which gives us permission to laugh at them too.

I could tell you a few stories on them, but today I'm only going to tell one.  They won't mind. :)

During our last breakfast, they prepared wonderful homemade pancakes.  They pile them all on one plate, put the plate in the middle of the table and it's first come first serve.

My cousins (boys) 10 and 13 didn't waist anytime putting a dent in the pancakes.  They each had a nice stack of their own.  After they smothered  them up with butter, the only thing that was missing was the syrup.

One of my cousins retrieves the syrup from the cabinet, begins pouring the Aunt Jemima syrup on his pancakes.  While sticking is fork into the pancakes, he notices something.  He hollers out, "Look, it's got ants"!

We all start laughing.  To think he has such a clever sense of humor so young!  We are so proud.  We compliment him and carry on, eating our biscuits and gravy.  We drove 8 hours for biscuits and gravy!

Then he hollers out again, "I'm serious, there are ants in the syrup"!

OH.

We all zone in to the syrup bottle and to our surprise there were ants swimming in the syrup!

I suppose if you think about it, syrup covered ants isn't that bad compared to other bugs I've seen kids eat.  But, it just didn't sound appetizing for breakfast.

We threw out the syrup and ate the pancakes smothered in good'ole butter.

Monday Madness

1.  Are you working on any big projects around your house right now?

Ewwww, no.  But if I were it would be cleaning out my storage shed, raking leaves, cleaning out my bathroom cabinet, cleaning out my closet.  Sounds like fun huh?

2. If so, tell us about it; if not, do you have any plans to do so in the near future?

The fun one I need to do is get caught up on my scrapbooking!  I think I'll start with that one.

I'm also thinking about moving my blog over to SquareSpace.

3. How do you generally pay for merchandise at your local store? Debit, credit, check, or cash?

I always use my debit card that comes right out of my checking account.  I don't carry that much cash, it's too easy to spend.

4. Which month of the year seems to go by the fastest?

All of them! Where did the time go?  It's already August, what did I accomplish this year?  Hmmmm.....still thinking. lol

5. Which day of the week seems to go by the fastest?

Usually Monday's because they are so busy, and the weekend.

6. Have you taken up any new hobbies lately?

I'm taking cake decorating that's really fun learning all the secrets to making my cake look like I spent hours on it!

Carnival of the Blogging Chicks #9 Blogging Love Theme

Why I love to blog?

I came across the blog world in 2004.  I was working out of town, and stumbled across it while looking for something to do.  I started my blog out about cats and started learning HTML so I could create a fancy webpage.  I was instantly addicted and have been ever sense.

Now, it's one of my hobbies.  I love designing the page and learning HTML.  In fact, I'm going to take a class just so I can be up-to-date on the most current tips and tricks.

I also love to blog because you meet people all over the world you would otherwise never be able to meet.  It also gives you a glimpse into other peoples life. It's a learning, growing experience.

I'm just starting a Postcard Pal exchange.  I'm going to do a post about it later this evening so come back for more details...it's going to be fun!

And I am excited that I made Spotlight of the Week over at my friends blog FTS, thank you FTS!

2,996: A Tribute to the Victims of 9/11

The 2,996 Project

For some people, it's about the numbers: 4 planes. 4 targets. 2,996 victims. 4 years and 10 months. 1,763 days. 42,312 hours. 2,538,720 minutes. For others, it's about the people.

9/11 has left many people with scars. Some with ragged son-shaped or daughter-shaped scars left on their hearts. And most of us were scarred seeing our own country, our own citizens, attacked so suddenly and so viciously.  I was not affected personally by 911 but others were not so lucky.

2,996 Project is seeking 2,996 volunteers to pay tribute to the victims of 911 on September 11, 2006.  If you would like to pay tribute to a victim of 911, you will need to sign up on or before September 11 here.   So far 1309 people have signed up, 1687 are still needed to reach the goal of 2,996.

Please note:  The project starts September 11.  When you sign up you will be assigned a victim to pay tribute to, you will not post the tribute (below) onto your blog until September 11.

Are you a Coke fan?

If you're a coke fan I hate to burst your bubble, but I found these interesting facts you might want to know about before you take that next sip.  Sorry!  OR You're Welcome!  Whichever you prefer.  As for me, I'm a Dr. Pepper drinker so this doesn't apply to me or to most of us Texans.  Sorry again!  Did you know way back when after doing extensive lab research and taste tests they determined Dr. Pepper causes cancer?  But recently after extensive research with yours and mine tax dollars, lab research and surveys from the mall, Harvard scientists have determined that Dr. Pepper is good for you?

I love to travel, the norther I go the less and less I'm served Dr. Pepper in a restaurant.  Do you know how close I have come to getting up and walking out over this delicate matter?  I have to completely rethink my entire menu selections to fit with a Coke.  After sucking it up, but not before throwing my temper tantrum in the floor, I give in and order a Mr. Pibb.

Oh, p.s. if you believed the story about the Dr. Pepper research just email me, I have more stories where that came from.

1. In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days.

3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coke into the toilet bowl. Let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean.

4. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

5. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a crumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

6. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

7. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

8. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan; wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a scrumptious brown gravy.

9. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

FYI:

1. Coke Cola (and almost all sodas) contains only water, cheap sugar (corn syrup), phosphoric acid, and artificial ingredients.  The tin can costs more than the ingredients.  The advertising costs more than the tin can.  So does the cost of shipping it to the store, as with the taxes paid by the manufacturer.

2. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. It's pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days (except stainless steel).

3. To carry Coca Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material place cards reserved for Highly Corrosive materials.

4. The distributors of Coke Cola have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years! Drink up!
